Adam Schefter is reporting that not only did we sign Rhodes, but we also signed a pair of free-agent tight ends; former Arizona Cardinal Bob Wakefield and former Cincinnati Bengal Tony Stewart.

He says we also re-signed Alvis Whitted.

I couldn't find a Bob Wakefield, so maybe he meant Fred.

Quote:
Wakefield has very good size and bulk, has the athletic ability to move in space and plays with aggression. He has versatility as a tight end or offensive tackle and will compete. The game is important to him. He can become too top-heavy and loses his balance and is not a road-grader in the run game. He struggles to shuffle his feet and hold with a solid base in pass protection and does not use his hands with pop and explosion to separate from defenders. He does not have solid hands as a receiver, either, and is not a vertical threat in the passing game. Also a poor route-runner. Wakefield began his career as a defensive end before moving to the offensive side of the ball and trying his skill set at tackle and guard. Now at tight end, he is used primarily in the run game. He is not a great getting downfield and is best as a short-area tight end in the passing game. Wakefield is not a player who will help a team get over the hump. He is a training camp player who should not make a team's roster.
That is what his expert's take said at espn insider, so I'm not jumping for joy, but who know's how old that is? From his stats it looks like he was used primarily as a blocker and special teams player.

Who says we can't still go after a RB? I'm getting the impression that Kiffin is going to do a lot of good stuff here. Current ideas. Like dominant backs. We also signed Justin Griffith, pending a completed physical. I'm seeing a west coast offense coming this season. But personally, I'd rather see Quinn than Russell. But at this point, if we drafted Joe Thomas, I'd be happy. It doesn't look like Randy's going anywhere. So no Johnson. And with two TEs being signed, the only gaps left are at QB. We really do have the personel to run the team, and we still have the draft. God help me, but maybe I can start looking foward to this upcoming season?

But seriously, now that we signed Rhodes, can we really afford to pass up the chance to draft a fanchise QB in Quinn?

I have to agree that it looks like we are leaning toward QB with the recent signings, but just because Moss hasn't been dealt doesn't mean it won't happen. I think trading him now certainly tips our draft strategy to grab CJ. Not that I want to trade Moss or draft a WR.

I really do like today's acquisitions the more and more I read them. Maybe we do need to go QB with the 1st pick. My opinion is easily swayed by good debate or cash.

I have to agree with you on the end of my Peterson Logic .... Unless there is a plan to trade Jordan. Rhodes is more Kiffins type of back than jordan.

Jordan has not gotten it done,I would love to see Petersen and Rhodes take us to another level, but if we draft a qb he will not play most likely, but if we draft a back he will start.

If we draft a qb we could trade down to 4-5 and still get one of them, but really, Rhodes and Jordan will not be the end of our running woes, and we all know it!...Lets get real here,we need a 1500 yard back or close to it,and keep the defense off the field so they can play patty cake with the qb when they do play....Petersen or anyone better.

I've checked this guys stats, and I must say he could be a one year wonder, his first 4 years in the league were a wash, and the Colts have a way better line than us,but look..he's OK if he can catch the ball out of the backfield, but we need to draft the best Rb in this years draft,I'm sorry but Ive seen this crap before cheap rb's,cheap qbs,and I would be shocked if this guy could match last years stats with our line, and his stats last year were average, we need better.

Please Al don't blow the #1 pick on a QB who will be standing on the sideline all year, get the best back in the draft and let him play...

Rhodes and Jordan are not the answer!
