Default Oakland Raider in the Hall of Fame campaign

Thoughts from the Dark Side | MVN - an Oakland Raiders blog » Blog Archive » Oakland Raider in the Hall of Fame campaign

There are numerous Raiders who have had Hall of Fame worthy careers who have not yet gotten the call from Canton they so richly deserve.

I voted in this poll earlier today. The selections are tough all of them deserve the HOF if you ask me. Personally I think Flores, Hayes & Ray Guy should get the first crack in that order!

Hayes & Tatum not being there now is just wrong. Tom Flores is the only coach with 2 superbowl wins eligible that isnt in and no one has a good reason why. The Cabbage Patch Kid is in the same boat; QB a team to 2 superbowl wins & when you say Jim Plunkett to someone whos not a Raider fan & they dont know who he is. The league hates Al Davis & by extention the Raiders. Thats why so many deserving Raiders are not in the hall of fame and so many will never be.

It's an unforgiveable sin for them not to be there. Both of them changed the way teams played offense. Rules were changed cuz of the way they played. And, sadly do to the stupid ass mentality of the pundits, they will not be there anytime soon, if ever. I actually heard some idiot say Tatum should not be there cuz his style of play would not transcend in today's game.

By that mindset the likes of Sid Luckman, Sammy Baugh & Deacon Jones sould be removed. If The Assassin played in todays game, he would, more than likly, be the most feared LB in the game, but then again a large part on Raider safties played like LBs. The biggest prerequisit, to me, to being in the hall is impact on the game. If rules had to be changed because of the way you played, then you made a huge impact on the game. Ive heard "learned men" say that Butkus couldnt play in todays game because he couldnt cover well enough, but to me the only reason Butkus couldnt play in todays game is because hes 66 years old with 2 bad knees.

The Tatum - Butkus argument is garbage. Both could play in todays game. I'll mention one name in association with tatum to make my point.... Ronnie Lott. Butkus was fast enough before he wrecked his knees.

Even though he was a whiner, Lott was a f*ckin destroyer. And if he is there, Tatum should be there as well. People do not realize that Tatum changed the defensive game. Sadly, it was because he paralyzed someone, but Bomber is right; if you have an effect on the rules, you are great enough to be in the Hall. But, sadly I think because of that incident Tatum is not there and he never will be.
