Well Max, I'm going to make a prediction here. I predict that the Raiders draft Troy Smith from Ohio State with the first overall draft pick. That is, unless the Lions suck just as bad as the Raiders for the next three weeks. If Troy goes to Detroit, then the Raiders draft offensive help of some sort, hopefully a half back. Then aquire a REAL GOOD center through FA.
OH MY GOD!!! Could I have been more wrong? My first official prediction, and I blew it hard!! No more predictions from me. I'll leave that to you Max.

Again... I'm going against the popular grain... Adrian Peterson will be selected by the Raiders with pick #1 no trading down... because cleveland will take Peterson. Russell and Quinn will take too long to develop so we will get our QB in the Second round...
That is a solid prediction and I hope you are right. I know I will be one very happy Raider fan if it comes true.
Well, when it comes to the draft there is NEVER a sure thing so any of these guys including Peterson can end up being busts. With that said, to be honest, I will be happy with any of these possible 1st round choices.
in no particular order.
1- QB Jamarcus Russel
2- QB Brady Quinn
3- RB Adrian Peterson
4- OT- Joe Thomas
5- WR- Calvin Johnson
6- Trade down for multiple picks
I have no particular favorite cause all these guys are big time stud prospects but I'll tell you one thing, if they don't trade down, they better select one of these guys. Can you imagine if they selected another offensive name with the 1st pick overall that was not one of the above mentioned guys. Worse yet, what if they selected a defensive player.

As everyone knows already I have a problem with 2 people on your list based on Hype and one just because he's a QB. Russell Quinn and johnson... should not be considered although if we draft Quinn I will give him a pass.
Calvin Johnson is a definite no way... Bust!!!! The kid has problems with being jammed at the LOS! They showed film of him being man handled when I watched the combine!

I'm not so sure that Cleveland takes Peterson. I mean, say the Raiders select a QB like everyone thinks. Then the lions take Brady Quinn or Joe Thomas. They will not take another WR that's for sure. Then Cleveland with the 3rd pick will be looking right at WR Calvin Johnson. Calvin could easily be considered the top player in the draft and very well could be drafted by the Raiders with the 1st pick. If Calvin slips to 3 which is very possible than I don't see how you can pass him up. Peterson has some questions that have to do with his injuries but Calvin has no questions at all. He is big, fast, and a high character guy which is rare for WR's in todays game. The Browns have R. Droughns. He had a down year but the prior two seasons he rushed for back to back 1200 plus yards. Their passing offense would have WR Braylon Edwards, WR Calvin Johnson and TE Kellen Winslow. How do you pass up the chance to put together that kind of air attack. So if the Browns do take Calvin, then Peterson will fall past the Bucs who have Cadillac, Arizona who have Edge, and Washington who have Portis. Peterson could fall to number 7 or 8. Quinn could fall even farther.
While I don't think CJ is going to be a bust, the only player I would like to see drafted at #1 is Peterson. If we aren't going to draft him, I would rather trade down to #4 if Tampa wants the #1. Not only is there the chance that Peterson is still there at #4, but I wouldn't be disappointed if we dropped down and still grabbed one of the guys from Badmoon's list of players and gained the additional draft picks to be able to manuever into higher picks.
I really don't think you trade the #1 pick, though, especially when there is a legitimate RB threat sitting at the top of the board.
A couple other of my quick thoughts:
WR should never be drafted in the first round unless that is the only weakness on your team. There is too much talent at this position readily available in every draft and free agency. There will be solid receivers available in the third round this year.
Quick, name all the great Raider QB's drafted in the first round? Marc Wilson? Nope. Todd Marinovich? Nope. Eldridge Dickey? Nope. The only great Raider QB we ever drafted was Stabler and that was in the 2nd round (after Dickey and in the same draft as Shell, Hubbard, and Atkinson). I suppose Flores counts as being drafted as well, but that was a long time ago. The other great Raider QB's; Plunkett, Lamonica, Gannon, and Collins (just kidding...lol) we grabbed off the trash heap and resuscitated their careers. I am not saying we can't develop or own or that we should always keep doing what we've done, but I do think we've proven throughout our history that we can build a winner without having to draft the hyped QB.
Sorry for double post, but after egomaniacally reading my own post, the thought occurred that we haven't really ever been in the position to draft the best quarterback available, especially when we needed a QB. Uggggh.

Don't worry about the double post
You hit the nail on the head with your assessment of drafting a QB in the first round. Nothing but heartache will follow unless we go back to 1983 ( Marino's Class ) I also agree with your assessment of the WR situation. It takes at least 2 or 3 years to reap any benefits from drafting a WR. We really don't need to draft in that Area even if Moss gets traded. We have Curry, Madsen, Gabriel, Francis, Morant and ... Alvis "James Jett" Whitted.
I can't say it enough... WE NEED A RB!!! and offensive line help.
Ok 4 days til the draft here is my official take on what will happen. The best thing for the franchise would be to trade down a couple of slots to Tampa Bay and pickup some extra picks. If we're smart we will give Walter a chance to play QB behind a offensive line that has been coached properly... and with an offense that was created in this century!
Here's what will happen on Draft Day... The Raiders will trade down with Tampa Bay and then select Brady Quinn. Quinn is further along in his development as a QB. Al Davis does not want a project at QB. I know there have been references to his love of big arms and his quest to get Elway and the conversation that he had with Art Shell about Michael Huff... However, one fact that is not being considered is the reluctance to rebuild... Davis likes to reload. Quinn is closer to that mentality. The second factor is Salary 25mil is steep for a franchise that is located in a small market!
Maximus is now officially on Record with the official insider pick

I kinda think we will trade, but Al Davis is hard headed, but if we do trade I think Quinn may be drafted before Russell so guess who will still be there at #4,and the only thing better is he will be cheaper than #1,but you know how I feel about him..nuff said!

I'm definitely with you on this one 100% Max. The poor guy never got a legitimate chance last year with a suicidal offensive line. With coach Kiffins' offense Walter sure would have the opportunity this year to make an impact so we can make a real judgment on him. He did great in college & if the year he was drafted was this year he would definitely be among the top picks for the QB position. Remember he did break John Elways long standing record. He also showed pretty good poise & elusiveness in his preseason games.
The guys seemed hyped for playing for coach Kiffin, but despite of all the moves Al chooses this year, I'm still very optimistic for this season. I believe it's gonna take a couple of years for everything to mesh together, then again this is the NFL .

LOL! You sounded pretty good for most of it tho badmoon. It's just funny to come back and read the predictions made. I blew one hard. "Raiders will select Troy Smith with the first pick." I learned to leave the predictions to Max.
