| | rob ryan?? : why the hell not!he's familiar with the system already,he's a d.c.hell who better to decipher defensive schemes, than a d.c.sounds scary huh? but hell there really arent any off- coaches out there that would be worth a damn, who would even consider the job.john madden was a def. coach, and he did a fairly decent job as you well know.what the raiders need right now is a person that already has the respect of his players, and would COMMAND no less.look at the guy he's an every- day joe looking type of guy. he looks like a guy who keeps the main thing ,the main thing.the f.t.w. type of guy.foot-ball is a tuff sport ,and a tuff guy is needed to guide the tuff.no pansy's,no wimps and no gut less "i've coached on every team and dont have jack to show for it. but trust me and i'll take you to the promise-land, for a million minimum",lying cheating sack of denver-donkey dung that pops up.get a q.b.trade the malcontents and fix that holier than swiss cheese ,limburger-stinking offensive line. we've got all the pieces but three maybe five that can easily be traded for.have a yard sale featuring brookes and the done brothers(moss and porter),brick and brack(tui the pencil whipper and walter i've been to disneyland nine times in one gameand lived to talk about it.hell, we can call it the baby flea market.raider for life, and wont jump ship for nada!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Ryan seems to fit that mold, but Big Al probably will not give him a chance.
BTW welcome to the site! |

BTW welcome to the site! | Sounds like the same old story from a year ago. I thought Art Shell was a tough as nails coach who was going to wip those guys into shape. Long practices, Dicipline, benching guys like Porter who opened their mouth too much. That worked out real great didn't it. I know a lot of people want Rob Ryan because everyone says that the team respects him and he is their number one choice for the job. However, in my opinion, the team should "NEVER" dictate who the coach should be. Remember when Joe Bugal was the teams favorite coach and they all wanted him to be the new head coach. It took one year before mutiny became an issue and guys like Tim Brown were changing the coaches play calls in the huddle and running what ever the hell they wanted. Oh Yea, what about how the entire team respected Bill Callahan and wanted him to take over after Gruden. Fast Forward 2 years to Bill's public outburst about how his team was the "dumbest team in America." If Ryan gets the job, it should have nothing to do with who the players want. With all that said, I have infact changed my opinion a little about Ryan and would really like to see him become Head Coach on two conditions. 1, we bring in a great OC. Trestman would be OK. Dennis Green or Mike Martz would be better. 2, we would have to replace Ryan with a top notch DC. Our "D" is sooo close to being the best in football that I would hate to have a drop off cause Ryan now, as HC, would have more to deal with besides just defense and our new DC just wasn't that good. I would "LOVE" to see Ryan's twin brother Rex Ryan come over and take care of the "D." Rob Ryan's Raider defense ranked 3rd in football. Guess who's defense was first? Rex Ryan's Raven "D" was the best in football and Rex is their DC. How cool would that be to have Rob Ryan as HC and Rex Ryan as DC. Add a solid OC and that would be the best coaching staff in football. You never know, Rex could then maybe even talk Raven Free Agent LB Adalius Thomas to follow him to Oak Town. |

| | Word is out of Tampa, that all their fans hate Gruden, and want him out. Now, it may not happen this off season, but what if next season he becomes available? Do we pursue him? If so, that would mean that we would have to hire a coach for only one season. Or hire a coach for a normal term, but then fire him if we wanted Gruden back bad enough. Now I don't know if it's just fond memories of times past, but we were the shit back in the Gruden days. |

| | I think that Al just might start to realize that if he wants to start winning again, he's going to have to relinquish some control. Either that, or he's going to have to go down on the field himself to coach. |

By Al trading him? I'm not saying that he should be brought back, I was posing a hypothetical question. But Gruden only did what any coach would have done. Used what he knew about his opponent to his advantage. ANY coach would have done that. I mean, what was he supposed to do? Forget what he knew about the team? Al traded a coach. How often do you hear that happen? I'd be pissed too if I were Gruden. But, anyway..... |

But, anyway..... | I'm the biggest Gruden Fan of all, but from what I understand, Al called Gruden in the middle of the night and told him that he just got a huge trade offer from Tampa. Then asked Gruden if "HE" still really did want to leave. Gruden said yes. It was a mutual separation. Not just Al's fault. |

| | yea, but anyway, the ? remains would you take him back? what happened in the past is in the past .but yes he's a good coach and he has proven that but be sure of this,it'll be a little hard to think he would consider coming back, as you said he was traded and hopefully he's got a lttle pride left. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
